Our Areas of Focus
Traditional bridges and dentures rest on the gums and only replace the visible portion of a tooth. This leaves the jawbone vulnerable to bone loss. Implants are the only solution that can stop bone recession, and they can provide a lifetime of oral health benefits.
James M. Vlassis DDS, MS, PC, performs all implant-related procedures at our Fayetteville, NY, office, including extractions, sinus augmentation, gum and bone grafting, and implant placement. He places up to 10 implants a day, more than most practitioners in the U.S.
Did you know gum disease can increase your risk of heart disease, respiratory disease, and even cancer?
Periodontal disease can be reversed in its earliest stages, but eventually becomes chronic. However, chronic gum disease can be managed. Dr. Vlassis offers everything from scaling and root planning, to gum grafting and pocket reduction surgery.

Why Should I Choose Dr. Vlassis As my periodontist?
Extensive Dental TrainingAll types of dentists (DDS and DMD) are required to complete four years of dental school. In addition to earning a DDS or DMD degree, periodontists must also complete a three-year residency program, a qualification that is highly competitive.
Board-Certification in Periodontics
Not all periodontists are board-certified. According to the American Academy of Periodontology, "Board certification in periodontology denotes someone who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty, including demonstrating a comprehensive mastery of all phases of periodontal disease and treatment and in the placement of dental implants." In order to uphold these standards, Dr. Vlassis must be re-certified every six years.
Board Certified in Dental Implantology
Dr. Vlassis is certified in both periodontics and dental implants. He is the only dentist within 100 miles to achieve this distinction. As the popularity of implant dentistry grows, more and more general dentists are advertising that they can place dental implants. Dr. Vlassis has been in practice for over 25 years.
